2 Apr 2025 - #acquisitions #Heylen group
ALL NEWSEvergem/Alkmaar, 09/04/2025 – Belgian logistics and fulfilment partner BMS is acquiring its Dutch counterpart Schuurman Consumentenelektronica. For BMS, this acquisition represents a logical first step in its international expansion plans. Schuurman Consumentenelektronica, which will continue to operate under its existing name, will gain access to BMS’s state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and a modern logistics hub spanning over 30,000 m².
BMS is a logistics service provider and fulfilment partner that supports clients through every step of the process — from port to end customer. “As our baseline Logistics & More suggests, BMS is more than just a warehouse. Our clients can rely on a wide range of additional services, such as our own transport division, return handling, in-house repair services, and after-sales support,” explains CEO Pieter Janssens.
Operating from Evergem, just outside the port of Ghent (Belgium), BMS currently handles between 1.2 and 1.5 million items per year. “Our ambition is to increase that volume to 2 to 3 million items in the coming years,” Janssens adds, referencing the growth potential at BMS’s current 30,000 m² site.
In April 2025, BMS takes a significant strategic step by acquiring Schuurman Consumentenelektronica, a fellow industry player based in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. Daniela Sarlo will take on the role of Country Manager for the Dutch market. “We’re not starting from scratch in the Netherlands,” she explains. “Schuurman has a long-standing tradition as a consumer electronics distributor and is known for its personal approach to customer service. At BMS, we’ll build on that tradition with modern infrastructure and enhanced IT capabilities.”
Schuurman Consumentenelektronica is a well-known name in the Dutch distribution landscape. As a wholesaler and distributor, the company adds value for suppliers and brands by delivering consumer electronics to end customers through an extensive network of retailers. Founded in 1923 in Alkmaar, Schuurman has grown over the past decade to become the second-largest player in the Dutch consumer electronics distribution market.
Willem Schuurman, current owner and a third-generation family member, sees this acquisition as an opportunity to scale the company’s competitive edge: “Thanks to this acquisition, the company my grandfather founded gains both operational and financial strength, supported by Heylen Group.” Willem will remain onboard as a shareholder and will serve in an advisory role within the new structure.
“In practice, Schuurman’s clients in the Netherlands will continue doing business in their own country and can still count on the same familiar service,” says Pieter Janssens. “On top of that, they will now have access to a broader range of fulfilment services through BMS,” adds Country Manager Daniela Sarlo.
The financial terms of the transaction remain confidential.
BMS was founded in 2021 as a spin-off of the omnichannel retail platform Connect+, best known for brands like Lanckriet. Thanks to years of experience within this network, BMS has a deep-rooted understanding of the logistics and distribution sectors. CEO Pieter Janssens worked for 12 years at Connect+ as Head of Purchasing & Supply Chain.
Daniela Sarlo, Country Manager for the Netherlands, also has extensive experience in the consumer electronics industry. She worked for over 18 years at Expert, including as Commercial Director, and 5 years at MediaMarkt.
BMS is part of Heylen Group, a Belgian industrial holding founded in 2000 that invests in ambitious businesses and entrepreneurs. The group follows a buy-build-and-hold strategy: what it acquires, it develops and retains. Innovation, internationalisation, and operational optimisation are central pillars of its vision.
