Evergem/Alkmaar, 9 April 2025 – Belgian logistics fulfilment partner BMS is acquiring its Dutch industry peer Schuurman Consumentenelektronica. For BMS, the acquisition is a logical first step in its international expansion plans. For Schuurman Consumentenelektronica, which will continue to operate under the same company name, the integration means access to modern IT infrastructure as well as a state-of-the-art logistics hub of more than 30,000 m².
BMS is a logistics service provider and fulfilment partner that takes care of every step of the journey between manufacturer and consumer for its customers. “As the baseline in our name, Logistics & More, suggests, BMS is more than a storage warehouse. Our customers can count on a wide range of support services, such as our own transport division, returns handling, an in-house repair service and an after-sales service,” explains CEO Pieter Janssens.
BMS operates from Evergem, a stone’s throw from the port of Ghent (Belgium), and handles between 1.2 and 1.5 million items each year. “Our ambition is to increase this to 2 to 3 million items within a few years,” says Pieter Janssens. The CEO points to the expansion possibilities on BMS’s current 30,000 m² site.
In April 2025, BMS is taking an important strategic step by acquiring its industry peer Schuurman Consumentenelektronica, based in Alkmaar in the Netherlands. Daniela Sarlo will take on the role of Country Manager for the Netherlands: “In the Netherlands, we are by no means starting from scratch. Schuurman Consumentenelektronica has a rich tradition as an electronics distributor and is known for its personal service. With BMS, we will enrich this tradition with modern infrastructure and further professionalise the company on the IT side.”
Schuurman Consumentenelektronica is a benchmark in the Dutch distribution landscape. This wholesaler and distributor adds value for suppliers and brands by bringing consumer electronics to the end customer through a close-knit network of retailers.
The company was founded in 1923 in Alkmaar in the Netherlands and over the past decade has grown into the second-largest player in the Netherlands in consumer electronics distribution. Owner and family member Willem Schuurman sees the acquisition by BMS as a way to scale up the company’s competitive advantage. “Thanks to this acquisition, the company my grandfather founded gains operational and financial strength, partly thanks to the backing of Heylen Group.” Willem Schuurman remains on board as a shareholder and will play an advisory role in the new organisation.
“In practice, Schuurman Consumentenelektronica’s customers will continue to do business in their own country and can keep relying on the service they know,” says Pieter Janssens, CEO of BMS. “On top of this familiar service, Dutch customers will also have access to a wider menu thanks to BMS’s fulfilment services,” adds Country Manager Daniela Sarlo.
The parties involved wish to keep the financial terms of the acquisition confidential.
BMS was founded in 2021 as a spin-off of the omnichannel retail platform Connect+, known for brands including Lanckriet. Thanks to years of experience within this network, BMS has a strong affinity with the logistics and distribution sectors. CEO Pieter Janssens worked for the Connect+ group for 12 years as Purchasing & Supply Chain Manager. Daniela Sarlo, Country Manager for the Netherlands, is also a seasoned expert in the consumer electronics industry. She worked for Expert for more than 18 years, including as commercial director, and for MediaMarkt for 5 years.
BMS is a Heylen Group company. Founded in 2000, Heylen Group is a Belgian industrial holding company that invests in ambitious companies and entrepreneurs. The group follows a ‘buy-build-and-hold’ strategy: what it buys, it develops and keeps. Innovation, internationalisation and operational optimisation are central to that strategy.
