HONSELERSDIJK – On 12 July 2024, Van den Bos Flowerbulbs acquired the breeding activities and all plant breeders’ rights to the Freesia range from Van Zanten Breeding.

With this strategic step, Van Den Bos strengthens its Freesia activities and secures the future of the Freesia business. Van Zanten Breeding, for its part, sharpens its focus on its strategic crops.

Strengthening the Freesia market

Van Den Bos was already responsible for the production and sale of the Freesia varieties developed by Van Zanten Breeding. Robert Piek, CEO of Van Den Bos: “By acquiring the breeding activities and plant breeders’ rights, we are taking a logical next step to serve the Freesia market as well as possible.”

By selling Freesia, Van Zanten Breeding sharpens its focus on its strategic crops for the cut flower and pot and garden plant markets.

Continuity and a sustainable future

In the coming years, Van Zanten Breeding will continue to carry out the Freesia breeding activities under the direction of Van Den Bos. This ensures the best possible continuity of the activities and the handover. Maarten Goos, CEO of Van Zanten Breeding: “Both companies are convinced that this acquisition secures a sustainable future for Freesia.”
